published in veranda, the new york times and countless other publications, this was a small, nondescript contemporary glass and drywall, plain jane room in the aldyn building of nyc’s west end neighborhood - that was given to raji in february of 2012 with less than two months time to create her magic. she whipped up a dream client and not just anyone - how about the chief curator of the met? what if this was his home office where he worked in the wee hours of the night or entertained guests in the afternoon? how sophisticated, well-informed and global it would be? and don’t forget, he has to be a collector of great taste but, wouldn’t have it before the walls really spoke to him. and so, the first order of business - venetian plaster on the walls and a classical mural made from a painting he covets and sees everyday while walking the halls of the met. it needed architectural heft too, so in came a sir john soane designed mantle atop which came a glorious raji rm mural, a bespoke line vautrin inspired piece for the ceiling and the finest and the best of vintage and contemporary design and art was used to create this assemblage - when done all you want to do was sit there and never leave!
